Apply to the Autónoma program if you are hoping to take a mix of Middlebury program courses offered at the Sede Prim and one or two courses in the humanities, math, or science at our partner university, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.  If you apply to this program, you do not also need to apply to the Sede Prim--courses there are understand as a component of this program.  Note that fall semester exams at the university run into January.

Perfecting Spanish competency through guided language immersion and facilitated social and cultural integration is what motivates students at the School in Spain. Well in advance of leaving the U.S., students are encouraged to reflect upon how they want to achieve their goals while in Spain; once in Spain, students work with staff to find ways of integrating into the Spanish language and culture by exploring their own interests.

Madrid is a vibrant city of more than 3 million residents. As the capital of Spain, it is an important political, economic, and cultural center, and is home to several museums, theatres, and an active nightlife. The student population in Madrid exceeds 200,000, which gives the city an exciting, boisterous, and friendly atmosphere. And even though Madrileños are accustomed to living a cosmopolitan and urban lifestyle, they maintain a strong Spanish identity that makes the city a fascinating location to learn and live the Spanish language and culture.

The Sede Prim in Madrid, the headquarters of the School in Spain, houses the undergraduate as well as the graduate programs. This facility, run by Middlebury College, offers an academic program designed specifically for its students. Students who opt for this program will also take one or two courses at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. The city of Madrid provides students a wealth of intellectual and cultural possibilities and enjoys a central location, making travel to various regions of the country convenient.
